About the Role

This position serves as liaison for vendor staff and the VA Health Care System Logistics Service Line. The Senior Supply Technician will ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by supply technician staff to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and materials including but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment.


Duties include

  • Distribute and balance workload among supply technicians in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assure timely accomplishment of assigned workload.

  • Monitor supply technicians regarding status and progress of work and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.

  • Maintain current knowledge base and answer questions from supply technicians on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary and obtain needed information or decisions from VA Healthcare System on problems.

  • Ensure supply technicians are maintaining stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services, including pulling stock inventory and material from inventory for delivery, replenishing stock inventory, interacting with customers to resolve issues, maintaining records on stock levels.

  • Monitor performance - inventory using bar code equipment and resolve differences between records and physical count of stock.

  • Ensure areas are cleaned in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled.

  • Monitor supply technicians are receiving supplies and materials into the catchment area including unpacking/uncrating supplies from shipping cartons; storing supplies and materials; and ensuring sterility and integrity of the supplies and material as well as the data integrity of the inventory management system.

  • Ensure supply technicians maintain customer and professional contact and work with all customers and vendors with tact and diplomacy to coordinate work activities and resolve operating issues pertaining to supply management requirements

    Maintain and monitor completion of supply technicians Talent Management System (TMS) trainings.

  • Ensure supply technicians have current Influenza shot per VHA directive 1192.01.

  • Work with clinical and administrative customers as well as outside stakeholders such as vendors to obtain information regarding clinical supplies.

  • The Senior Supply Technician shall verify daily (unless otherwise noted) that Supply Technicians are performing the following tasks:

    • Maintain stock level records and recommendations

    • Maintain monitoring and rotation of stock and critical supplies

    • Maintain notification of significant deviations

    • Maintain inventory of primary and inventory points

    • Maintain products and shelves marked with corresponding identification numbers and update labels as required

    • Complete breakout room and restocking primaries

    • Cleaning and checking of inventories for expiration dates based on local Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

    • Completion of update cleaning logs for all inventories per local SOP

    • Completion of support wall to wall and periodic inventories

    • Completion of scan assigned inventories and upload data in generic inventory package (GIP).

    • Completion of pull - assigned pick tickets accurately

    • Signing in and out for each scheduled shift.

    • The sign-in sheets shall be emailed to the COR at the end of each week.

    • Notify the Government POC of all supply technicians that are tardy and or absent as soon as possible.

       


Requirements

Education Requirements:  


  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) or equivalent


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

 

  • Two (2) years’ experience successfully working in a supervisor capacity with proven leadership skills and ability to work cooperability with others. 

  • Basic computer knowledge demonstrating skill in use of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) 

  • Previous medical logistics experience preferred

  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing a wide range of tasks, responding to changes in direction and priorities and accepting new challenges, responsibilities and assignments. 

  • Practice excellent communication, organization, and time management skills; must be reliable, efficient, and flexible.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all customers (soldiers and civilian).

  • Able to meet physical demands of position.

  • Able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, be detail oriented and work independently.

  • An understanding of warehouse operations and functions.

  • Individual must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.


Physical Demands: 


  • While performing the duties of this job, you are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Ability to lift and carry items that weight up to 70 pounds. 


Work Environment: 


  • Work is performed in a warehouse environment, inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted.
